Run by some of the leading Vascular Surgeons in the North West, including Prof Charles McCollum, Mr Steve Richardson and Mr Damian Kelleher, IVS Surgcial helps to treat all main vascular conditions including deep vein thrombosis, aneurysms, poor circulation and varicose veins.

You can choose an initial consultation at a range of our NHS sites across the North West region or at our main site at BMI Alexandra in Cheadle, which is Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare. We are able to offer the highest level of care in one of the premier private hospitals in the North West.

We offer patients keyhole surgery for most of our procedures, which means you are able to recover much faster and return to your normal activities with very little downtime.


Meet the Team


Prof Charles McCollum

Professor McCollum became a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in Surgery at Charing Cross Hospital, London in 1983, aged only 32. He specialised exclusively in vascular surgery following his appointment as Professor of Surgery in Manchester in 1989. He now has over 25 years of consultant experience in complex vascular surgery. He has perhaps the biggest practices in carotid surgery in the UK and specialises in reconstructions of the aorta including all arteries to the brain, viscera and legs.

In addition to the full range of arterial and venous surgery, his special interests including Carotid surgery, angioplasty and stenting, Endovascular Aneurysm repair and peripheral artery disease in the legs.

Professional profile

Mr Steven Richardson graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London in 1997. He continued his initial training in London before moving back to his home town of Manchester in 2001. He rotated through surgical training in the North West, and developed a keen interest in the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system.

He trained extensively in cardiothoracic and transplant surgery, working as a Research Fellow at The Transplant Centre in Wythenshawe Hospital where he discovered a new technique for diagnosing rejection in heart transplant recipients.
He was awarded the higher degree of MD for this work. He then focused his training in the field of Vascular surgery, working at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and Wythenshawe Hospital as a senior trainee, before expanding his experience further by embarking on an Endovascular Fellowship in Queensland, Australia.
On his return to Manchester, he was appointed as Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at The University Hospital of South Manchester. He has a keen interest in Research and Education and holds the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer in Surgical Practice at the Manchester School of Health Sciences.


Mr Damian Kelleher

Professional profile

Mr Damian Kelleher qualified from St George’s Hospital Medical School where he held several posts throughout London before undertaking higher surgical training in Wales.

At the end of SpR training he undertook a fellowship at Imperial College in London where he gained experience in the treatment of complex aneurysms and developed an interest in venous disease, which included the latest non-tumescent treatments of varicose veins.

He was appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Royal Oldham Hospital in 2013 where he has continued a specialist interest in varicose veins including limb and facial thread veins.

He also has an interest in carotid surgery for stroke prevention, endovascular repair for abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery and bypass surgery for lower and upper limbs.
