EVLT support
Endovenous Laser Treatment, (EVLT), has revolutionized the industry as an innovative treatment for varicose veins. In a simple, in-office, local-anaesthetic based procedure varicose veins are eliminated via thermal energy produced from a fine laser fibre. The laser fibre is inserted into the vein, through a tiny incision just above the knee, and positioned in the correct place with guidance from an ultrasound probe. The procedure is carried out as a day case. Patients can walk around immediately after the operation. The whole procedure takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete. The post-operative discomfort and bruising is less than with traditional surgery and patients return to work faster than after traditional surgery.
IVS is at the forefront of this development and has recently signed a supply agreement with one of the world's technology leaders, Diomed Limited based in Cambridge (www.diomeduk.com), to supply ultrasound support, training and procedure consumables. IVS is uniquely positioned to provide mobile ultrasound equipment plus a vascular ultrasonographer, fully trained in the EVLT technique, to support the consultant surgeon throughout the entire procedure. Operationally, IVS has signed agreements to provide ultrasound scanning support for EVLT procedures at both the University Hospital of South Manchester and the Royal Oldham Hospital.
